Papandreou: Greece is exposed to pressure regarding name issue by allies and partners
Athens, April 1 (MIA) - Now is not the time for criticism, but for strengthening of the Greek voice in the crucial talks on Macedonia's name, said leader of the opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) Georgios Papandreou after Tuesday's meeting with Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.
After consultations regarding the dispute, Papandreou stated that Greece has been brought injustice, and the country faces pressure due to the name issue, "even by allies and partners".
He stressed that PASOK's position on the dispute "is crystal clear"", and that the party remains on the stance for "a compromise name with a geographic determinant for general use, without exceptions".
"We must say 'no' to all forms of a double name, and of course 'no' to any attempt for 'back door' accession of the neighboring country in NATO without resolution to the name issue", said Papandreou.
The PASOK leader said he proposed to the Prime Minister that he visits Skopje "even at the last moment", in order to contribute to "the strengthening of Greece's negotiating position for the problem's resolution".
