Greek Parliament discusses results of NATO Summit, Macedonia name issue
Athens, April 11 (MIA) - The chance for a solution to the dispute is in Skopje's hands, said the Athens Government during the debate in the Greek Parliament regarding the results of the NATO Summit and the Macedonia name problem.
"We want friendly relations and cooperation with 'FYROM', and we do not play with regional stability, stability of our neighbors, and national issues", said Prime Minister and leader of ruling New Democracy party, Costas Karamanlis.
Opposition leader Georgios Papandreou stated that a negative development on Greece's national interests was averted at the Bucharest summit.
Political leaders sharply criticized statements of U.S. Assistant State Secretary Daniel Fried on the existence of the Macedonian people and Macedonian language.
"Statements that facilitate talks are required, not ones that make it more difficult", said Karamanlis.
U.S. Deputy Assistant State Secretary Matthew Bryza, who held talks Thursday with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis, said the goal of the dialogue should be a compromise solution in the interest of both parties.
