Canadian Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Hillier visits ARM
Skopje, April 28 (MIA) - General Rick Hillier, Canada's Chief of the Defense Staff, who pays first official visit to the Macedonian Army (ARM) as of yesterday, was greeted Monday with highest military honors by his host and counterpart Lieutenant - General Miroslav Stojanovski on the plateau outside the building of Defense Ministry and ARM's General Staff.
Gen. Hillier and the high-level Canadian military delegation at the meeting with Stojanovski were briefed on the defense reforms and ARM's transformation, as well as on the analysis following the Bucharest NATO Summit. The Defense Ministry and ARM General Staff pledged to resume the reforms and implementation of determined plans for further development and defense transformation, aiming at full-fledged membership in NATO and Euro-Atlantic integration, General Staff's Public Relation Office said in a statement.
ARM's new structure and participation in international peacekeeping missions were presented to the delegation. Moreover, the Canadian guests exchanged experiences regarding the operations of Canada's special forces in ISAF mission in Afghanistan, focusing on the process of preparing and training prior to the mission.
At the meeting, both army chiefs concluded that the bilateral military cooperation was progressing, although it needed to be expanded and intensified.
