"Tzar Samuil" opera opens 36. May Opera Evenings
Skopje, May 9 (MIA) - The 36. May Opera Evenings will be opened Friday with "Tzar Samuil" opera by Kiril Makedonski, which is the first opera performed at festival in 1972. Ognjan Draganov from Bulgaria is director, maestro Sasa Nikolovski-Gjumar is conductor, whereas Igor Durlovski will perform in a leading role.
"Tosca," "La Boheme" and "Turandot" by Puccini, "Lucia Di Lammermour" by Donizetti and Verdi's "Aida" are on the repertoire of this year's festival edition at Macedonian Opera and Ballet. Festival traditionally is closed on May 31 with the performance of "Aida" and beside opera performances, MOB will be presenting two ballets "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky and "Raymonda" by Glazunov, along with a concert of Macedonian Philharmonic, returning at MOB stage after several year hiatus with symphonic program.
Many soloists from Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, USA, Canada and Italy will be touring the festival. World famous tenor Vladimir Galuzin, soloist of famous Mariinsky Theatre from St. Petersburg and bearer of title Russian National Artist will be among guests touring at this year's May Opera Evenings festival. He will be performing the role of Calaf in "Turandot" on May 24. Among other famous opera names coming to festival are Fabiana Bravo, performing Tosca and Tamara Haskin performing Aida.
Two act "Tzar Samuil" opera is once again on the repertoire after seven year hiatus. Igor Durlovski had also performed the leading role in 2001, stating that at current age of 31, he feels this opera differently, as stirring and deeply emotional story. Zivoin Trajanovic is scenographer of this opera, whereas Elena Donceva is costume designer.
Former concertmaster Gjoko Nikolovski will light festival flame on Friday evening, followed by three exhibitions opened at MOB lobby.
