Pre-election campaign begins
Skopje, May 11 (MIA) - Campaign of political parties and other participants at the early parliamentary elections, scheduled on June 1, officially began at midnight.
Parties, coalitions and independent candidates can present their programs before the electorate in the next 20 days.
Two largest coalitions - "VMRO-DPMNE-led "For Better Macedonia", and SDSM-led "Sun-Coalition for Europe" - launch their campaigns with rallies in Ohrid and Stip respectively.
The pre-election campaign will last until May 30, followed by election silence on May 31. Polling stations will be open from 07,00h to 19,00h on June 1.
Elections will be conducted according to the proportional model in six election districts. About 1,74 million citizens have the right to vote.
Over 30 political parties signed the Code of Conduct for Free and Fair Democratic Elections. USA, EU, OSCE, as well as other domestic and international representatives and organizations sent appeals for correct campaigning.
According to announcements, 270 OSCE/ODIHR representatives will monitor the elections, along with 3,500 from civic association "MOST".
