MoFA conveys note of protest over harassing Macedonian citizens in Greece

Skopje, May 12 (MIA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) handed over Monday a note of protest to the Head of Greek Liaison Office in Skopje, Alexandra Papadopoulou, over frequent harassment of Macedonian citizens that visit Greece.

Three separate incidents of harassing Macedonian citizens and vandalizing their vehicles have been reported for the last few days, the note reads.

Drivers of lorries with Macedonian registration plates have been attacked and harassed in two incidents near the city of Larisa. It is rather concerning that one of the incidents took place in the presence of Greek police, which did nothing to prevent the act of violence, MoFA said in a press release.

The Ministry points out that such acts of vandalism do not only violate the freedom of movement of people and goods, which is one of the European Union's fundamental values and principles, but also present a threat to the security and physical integrity of Macedonian citizens, which do not contribute to building good neighborly relations and trust among peoples.

MoFA is expecting from the Greek relevant institutions to urgently take appropriate measures and prevent such incidents.
