"Faces Without Masks" amateur theatre festival kicks off
Skopje, May 16 (MIA) - Youth Cultural Centre (MKC) restores international amateur theatre festival "Faces Without Masks" after a five-year hiatus, whereat foreign theatre ensembles from seven Slavic countries will take part, as of Friday through May 20.
The festival will be opened with performance "Non-Linear Evolution" of the Harlequin Theatre from Russia. Its program also includes plays from Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Serbia. In addition to this, two amateur plays from Macedonia will be performed.
Igor Ivkovic is the festival selector, who together with Ruse Arsov and Roza Nacevska, is the festival founder ten years ago. He pointed out that the festival deals with new aesthetics, which research the creation of theatre concepts. Ivkovic added that even professionals, who travel and tour around the world, could learn something from the selected performances, whereas term amateur does not mean low quality.
"Faces without Masks" has a competitive feature, awarding the best play. A jury, comprised of Snezana Konevska, Todor Kuzmanov and Robert Veljanovski, will decide upon the awards.
Moreover, the program includes workshops for pantomime, juggling and street theater, painting and hand-made jewelry.
