DM Konjanovski meets U.S. Ambassador Milovanovic
Skopje, July 29 (MIA) - Minister of Defense Zoran Konjanovski at a meeting Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia Gillian Milovanovic announced resumption of defense reforms, being one of the key segments for NATO membership.
At the meeting, Konjanovski emphasised his determination in making enhanced efforts towards creating small and compact army that was ready to face modern challenges and to be engaged anywhere in the world together with the allies.
Given the Bucharest Summit and the fact that Macedonia was denied NATO membership invitation, the Minister said it mustn't discourage us. Instead it should motivate the country to resume the reforms.
Ambassador Milovanovic, expressing regret for the negative outcome for the Bucharest Summit, said she was satisfied with the ongoing intensified reforms, because they were of particular importance for Macedonia and NATO, but also for USA being Macedonia's friend and strategic partner.
Wishing him successful work, Milovanovic said the new defense minister was expected in due time to form a team with capacity and credibility to bring resolutions and decisions.
The meeting also focused on the defense's budget. Milovanovic stated she hoped in the future more effective disposal of the defense budget would be ensured, noting that NATO and USA paid much attention to the stability of the budget for enabling easier project realisation.
