Books belonging to 'the real James Bond' up for auction
Edinburgh, September 3 (MIA) - A collection of James Bond books once owned by a man credited with being "the real 007" is expected to sell for £20,000 at auction.
The books, which include every Bond novel from 1953 onward, are due to go under the hammer at Lyon and Turnbull auctioneers in Edinburgh on Wednesday after being put up for sale by his family.
The novels, which include a rare first edition of the original Bond book Casino Royale, were part of the collection of Sir Fitzroy Maclean, a lifelong friend of the spy's creator Ian Fleming and possible inspiration for his work.
A some-time diplomat, Tory MP, founder member of the SAS and trusted friend of Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Fitzroy was one of the great British adventure heroes of the 20th Century.
A friend of Fleming's since their days at Eton, his wartime exploits included a special mission to liaise with communist Josip Tito's partisans in occupied Yugoslavia. Working inside the Soviet Union in the 1930s, the Scottish Baronet was also suspected of being a British spy - something he denied.
