FIBA-Europe chief Zanolin delighted from basketball development in Macedonia
Skopje, December 2 (MIA) - Youth and Sports Agency director Dragan Gjurcevski met Tuesday with FIBA-Europe secretary-general Nar Zanolin. The meeting focused on initiated projects within the basketball infrastructure, as well as future bilateral cooperation.
Gjurcevski said after the meeting that the Agency project on construction of 35 sporting halls throughout Macedonia is ongoing, whereas 100 open-air basketball courts are to be constructed in 2010.
"Clubs are being established in all halls we are currently building, and I am certain they will contribute to the development and affirmation of basketball as one of the most popular sports in Macedonia", said Gjurcevski.
FIBE-Europe chief Zanolin saluted the structure of the Macedonian Basketball Federation and the new Skopje hall "Boris Trajkovski", adding that FIBA-Europe would grant the Youth and Sports Agency scoreboards for halls already in construction.
"What the Government is doing in the development of youth and sport in your country is fantastic and unique in Europe. This is a small country, and it is really a great success that your national team has qualified for the European Championships", added Zanolin.
FIBA-Europe is comprised of 51 national federations, whereas Macedonia became its member three years ago.
