Legendary Aznavour arrives in Macedonia

Skopje, July 2 (MIA) - French chanson entertainer and film actor Charles Aznavour is arriving in Macedonia today as the guest of ESRA University of Audiovisual Arts and the French Film Festival taking place in Ohrid on 28th June to 4th July.

Aznavour will be presented two recognitions of merit on this occasion. He will be pronounced Doctor Honoris Cause of the University in the Cinematheque of Macedonia in Skopje at 8.00 p.m. today and on the closing of the French Film Festival at the Antique Theatre, 4th July, the world music legend will be presented Golden Mask for Life Achievement.

"Charles Aznavour was born in Paris in 1924 to Armenian emigrant parents. His career, which started after the Second World War ended, has been marked with an international Odyssey in music and film that has made him one of the cult figures of modern times on the five continents. Beside coauthoring his lyrics and compositions that instigated delight of the legendary world music figures such as Edith Piaf, Ray Charles, Lisa Minnelli, Fred Astaire. Aznavour starred around 70 films that have left mark in the world history of film..."

At the Cinematheque today, Rector of ESRA University Jordan Plevnes will refer to Aznavour’s life and work and will promote this first Macedonian-language edition of his poetry.
