Thermal camera for A(H1N1) flu screening installed at Skopje Airport
Skopje, July 3 (MIA) - A thermal camera for detecting arriving passengers with a body temperature above normal, being one of the symptoms of A(H1N1) flu, is being installed Friday at the Skopje airport "Alexander the Great". The mandatory thermal screening of passengers starts tomorrow, thus providing information for the Ministry of Health on potential infected people. Staff is also being trained to operate the camera.
According to results from tests made in a London laboratory, there are no people infected with the new type A influenza in Macedonia.
Director of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases Zvonko Milenkovic told a press conference that five patients were currently hospitalized and other two had been released from hospital.
Minister of Health Bujar Osmani said the World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned that the spread of flu pandemic would be inevitable and could not be prevented with any travel restrictions or closing of borders.
- WHO recommends state services to focus on their resources to cure and treat those that are infected and to inform the citizens how to protect themselves. WHO's positive evaluations are encouraging because the pandemic has a moderate intensity, stated Osmani.
We can conclude, he added, that early detection of suspicious cases demonstrates that citizens, state and health services are well informed on the disease, its early detection, adequate treatment and prevention.
