Macedonia's Customs Administration - recipient of WCO first prize for protection of intellectual property rights

Skopje, July 3 (MIA) - This year the annual World Customs Administration (WCO) award Benitez Trophy for combating counterfeiting and piracy was awarded to Macedonia's Customs Administration. The award was handed over at the last WCO Consul Session, taking place on June 26-27 in Brussels.

Macedonia's Customs has been awarded for the great number of seizures of counterfeit goods that could affect people’s health and safety, including automobile parts, toothpaste and detergent, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya said.

Announcing the WCO award at a press conference on Friday, Customs Administration Director Vanco Kargov, briefed reporters on the institution's activities against counterfeiting and piracy in the last 2,5 years.

Strict control system has reduced the number of attempts for transiting goods that violate the intellectual property rights, Kargov said. Transporters of such goods have been using other routes, most often across the neighboring countries, he added.
