Premiere of "Hamlet" at Ohrid Summer

Ohrid, 16 July 2010 (MIA) - Premiere of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" directed by Dejan Projkovski, produced by Skopje-based Drama Theatre, will be performed within "Ohrid Summer" festival on Friday.

The role of Hamlet is played by Dejan Lilic, whereas young Viktorija Stepanovska appears in the role of Ophelia.

"Today, it is not the problem of to be or not to be, the problem today is to be. And how and why to be, despite everything", director Projkovski says about the manner how the character of Hamlet can be interpreted nowadays, because times completely changed, marked by something called 'global progress'. He says that to be means to be cast in a 'joint' civilization that undoubtedly brings suffering, loneliness, treason, madness, misery...

The Drama Theatre first performed "Hamlet" directed by Slobodan Unkovski and with Meto Jovanovski in the leading role at the Ohrid Summer in 1978. The second production of the Drama Theatre's "Hamlet" was set by Vlado Cvetanovski in 1999 with Gjorgi Jolevski performing the role of the hero.

The cast includes Branko Gjorcev, Dragan Spasov, Igor Angelov, Nikola Acevski, Katerina Kocevska, Laze Manaskovski and other. Vlado Gjorevski and Blagoj Micevski are the set designers, while Goran Trajkovski is the music author.
