Billström expects EC’s recommendation for visa liberalisation for Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro by mid July
Bonn, July 3 (MIA) - Swedish Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström expects that European Commission will issue a recommendation for visa liberalisation for Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro by mid of July.
- By mid of July the European Commission will issue a recommendation which will enable visa-free regime by end of 2009 for those countries that will meet the needed criteria by then. I certainly think here about Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Billström said.
He expected that after this, further procedure will resume in competent working bodies of the EU Council before summer vacations.
He said that Serbia remains with EC to resolve issues for control of border with Kosovo and for issuing passports for citizens of Kosovo.
Billström said that Sweden supports the lifting of the visa regime for the Western Balkan states, once the individual countries meet their respective criteria.
- Most importantly is to stick to visa roadmaps. This is the only road for each of the countries towards visa liberalisation. Each country has its own specific problems but meeting the needed criteria included only in the visa roadmap is the key to everything, Billström said.
