Billström expects EC’s recommendation for visa liberalisation for Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro by mid July
Bonn, July 3 (MIA) - Swedish Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström expects that European Commission will issue a recommendation for visa liberalisation for Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro by mid of July.
- By mid of July the European Commission will issue a recommendation which will enable visa-free regime by end of 2009 for those countries that will meet the needed criteria by then. I certainly think here about Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Billström said.
He expected that after this, further procedure will resume in competent working bodies of the EU Council before summer vacations.
He said that Serbia remains with EC to resolve issues for control of border with Kosovo and for issuing passports for citizens of Kosovo.
Billström said that Sweden supports the lifting of the visa regime for the Western Balkan states, once the individual countries meet their respective criteria.
- Most importantly is to stick to visa roadmaps. This is the only road for each of the countries towards visa liberalisation. Each country has its own specific problems but meeting the needed criteria included only in the visa roadmap is the key to everything, Billström said. sk/fd/10:45

Explosion outside Greek tax office
Athens, July 3 (MIA) - A powerful bomb has exploded outside an Athens tax office causing considerable damage but no injury.
The blast occurred at 4.35am local time on Friday in the central Ambelokipi district, and followed an anonymous warning call to two Athens newspapers, police said.
Magdalini Bakalarou said the bomb "caused serious damage" in an area between the tax office and a nearby McDonalds building but there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.
Last month, a far-left militant group called Armed Revolutionary Action said it carried out a similar attack on another Athens tax office that caused no injury.
Greek militants have stepped up attacks in recent months, following December's fatal police shooting of a teenager that sparked Greece's worst rioting in decades.
In the bloodiest incident, gunmen shot dead an anti-terrorist officer guarding a witness in Athens on June 17.
A group called Sect of Revolutionaries, which emerged shortly after the riots, has claimed responsibility for the shooting.
Also early on Friday, suspected anarchist arsonists set off a small incendiary device outside an immigration policy centre in central Athens, causing damage but no injury. sk/fd/9:01

EU should keep its promise and admit Turkey, West Balkan countries as members
Berlin, July 2 (MIA) - The European Union should fulfil its promise and grant membership to Turkey and West Balkan countries, if they meet the necessary membership criteria, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband states for German daily "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
- Mounting resistance towards EU enlargement threatens the opportunities for establishing peace and well-being outside our borders, Miliband deems.
According to an OSCE forecast, Turkey in 2017 will be second in the world according to economic growth.
- Besides that, it may become an important transit corridor for oil and gas transportation form the Middle East and Central Asia. Thus, Turkey will become a chance not a threat for Europe, says the British Foreign Secretary.
