Jeremic: Belgrade will not be taking steps towards joining NATO

Belgrade, February 8 (MIA) - Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said that Belgrade will not be taking steps towards joining NATO, but will be cooperating with the Alliance, Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti reads.

He said that Serbia is not thinking of joining and military alliance currently.

However, he said that Serbia will cooperate with NATO and all other organizations in the Western Balkans towards maintaining peace and stability.

He said that it is of great importance in Serbia’s diplomatic approach for the security dimension in Kosovo to be discussed at the highest level.

Jeremic was attending the Munich Security Conference, which he said is the most important conference of its kind that will be held in 2010. sk/fd/9:12

Turkish cargo ship runs aground off Split, no injuries

Zagreb, February 7 (MIA) - A Turkish cargo ship was stranded on the eastern shore of the islet of Mrduja between Solta and Brac, off Split, shortly after Saturday midnight. None of 13 members of the vessel's crew was injured. All crew members are Turkish nationals, Hina reports.

The 84-metre long ship called "Murat Hacibekiroglu III" is a vessel of 1957 gross tonnage and with a 1,244kW driving engine. There have been no signs of sea pollution.

The ship departed from the western in Split to Bari, with 1,429 tonnes of wheat and 1,587 tonnes of maize.

The port authorities of Split are conducting an investigation into causes of the stranding.
