Balkans to suffer from Brexit: analyst

Washington, 26 June 2016 (MIA) - The Balkans will suffer short- and long-term effects of UK's exit from the European Union, says U.S. analyst Daniel Serwer.

"The region is very dependant from European trade and investments, but the political influence is more important. Brexit will open the door for increased Russian influence. Vladimir Putin will surely increase pressure on Serbia, Republic of Srpska and Macedonia in deterring them from EU and NATO's doors", stressed Serwer.

He assessed that Brexit is very bad news for Britain, EU, United States, Balkans, but a good one for Putin.

Asked how the U.S. will treat the UK, Serwer said Washington "will try to act as if nothing happened".

"Donald Trump will surely benefit from this, while Hillary Clinton will lose", said the U.S. analyst.
