Kosovo parliament approves armed forces initiative: report

Pristina, 15 February 2017 (MIA) - The Kosovo parliament has approved the initiative over the restructuring of the security police forces into armed forces, TASS reports citing the Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).
"The Kosovo government is authorized to start the development of a strategy over the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces into armed forces", says RTK.
On February 8, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli passed a decision over transformation of the security forces into an army.
Serbia has said that Kosovo has no right to form its own army since this violates Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council.
