Bus crash kills 13 in Turkey

Ankara, 14 September 2014 (MIA) - Thirteen men were killed when a coach carrying a group of barbers crashed in southern Turkey.

The early Sunday accident on the Antalya-Isparta highway in Burdur province left a further 31 injured, six severely. The driver was among the dead.

The province’s governor Hasan Kurklu said the coach, hired by the Chamber of Barbers and Hairdressers of neighboring Afyonkarahisar province, came off the road at 05.45 local time (03.45 GMT).

Police and prosecutors have examined the scene but have yet to make any statement.

The injured were taken to hospital in Isparta and Antalya provinces and the wreckage was removed.

The all-male party was on its way to Manavgat in Antalya province for a holiday, officials from the chamber said.

According to the World Health Organization Turkey has a road traffic fatality rate of 13 deaths per 100,000 population.
