EU remains committed to Western Balkans perspective

Brussels, 12 December 2014 (MIA) - Enlargement remains EU's key policy and continues to contribute in the mutual benefit of peace, democracy, security and prosperity in Europe, read the general conclusions over enlargement, scheduled for adoption at the Council summit next Friday, MIA reports from Brussels.

The Council continues to give enormous significance to the credibility of the enlargement process, which remains essential in the maintenance of the reform tempo and public support over enlargement in the region, where it needs to be promoted through improved communication, but also in EU member-states.

"The Council confirms its unequivocal commitment to the European perspective of the Western Balkan states. In line with prior Council conclusions and within the Copenhagen political criteria and the Stabilization and Association Process, it urges the just and rigorous conditioning and principle of individual merit, in combination with EU's capacity in all its dimensions, towards integrating new members", read the conclusions.
