CEZ will close a major coal plant in Bulgaria due to environmental regulations

Prague, 13 December 2014 (MIA) - Czech energy company CEZ announced on Saturday it will shut down it's coal plant based in the Bulgarian port city of Varna, due to environmental regulations pushed by the European Union.

MIA correspondent in Prague informs that the plant was seen as unfit for service, under the EU environmental laws. With six blocks and a total of 1260 MWh, TPP Varna is one of the largest coal plants in the Balkans. An EU based study recently condemned Bulgaria for not meeting its obligations with regard to carbon emissions.
