Juncker: Any new Greek government expected to respect commitments of predecessors

Brussels, 22 January 2015 (MIA) - Any new government in Greece is expected to deliver on the commitments of its predecessors, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said Thursday.

Juncker's comments, made during a joint press conference with Finland President Sauli Niinisto, were seen as a warning to leftist SYRIZA opposition which is widely expected to win Sunday's snap election, Greece's daily Ekathimerini‎ reported.

“We do not want to interfere in the election debate in Greece, for obvious reasons. It is up to the Greeks to elect those they want to be governed by,” Juncker said.

“The only thing that we can say, and we have to say is that we do think that the commitments which have been made by Greece will be respected by any new Greek government,” he added.
