It’s not quite a “beard” that Cody Krecicki is willing to rent you, and it’s certainly not a flesh-and-blood girlfriend. Rather it’s a woman who will perform “girlfriend-like tasks” for you—but strictly online.
The 22-year-old Edison State College student and brains behind Girlfriendhire.com is quoted by naplesnews.com as explaining that the females at his site who hire themselves out as virtual GFs “give guys advice, break up with their girlfriend for them, [and] send them a message on Facebook they can show off to their friends.”
Since he started up his online service a month ago, Krecicki has topped 100,000 page views and has better than 1,600 users who have placed 300 orders. The women who sign up, all of whom use screen names only, post their pictures and areas of expertise. Take SweetlyVague (please!). Her keywords are fun, flirty, and breakup, and her “bio” (if that is the correct term) reads:
I’m willing to send fun and flirty text messages. We all know how jealous girls can be, and the attention could be used to help break off a relationship, or draw other girls in! Also willing to send fun and flirty emails, as well as photos.
Some of the women advertise that they will cater to fetishes (foot fetishes seem to be big this spring), while others claim they will do anything except nudity. Others have a distinct self help feel to them (e.g., help you with your dating profile, teach you how “just to be friends,” answer fashion questions).
Krecicki explains that the rate per “fling” that he charges, $5, is to discourage the women from getting into adult or escort services, which is prohibited by the site’s terms of services.
Katie Browder, one of the women on the site who was willing to share her actual name, told naplesnews.com, “That can be hard to enforce because pictures and videos can be shared through a third-party service, like Skype or an instant messenger.”
So what accounts for Girlfriendhire.com’s instant popularity? Krecicki believes it comes down to down simple and immutable truths—that “girls are mysterious” and that “guys don’t know anything about girls.
