Turkish court rules Erdogan's palace was constructed illegally

Istanbul, 26 May 2015 (MIA) - Turkey‘s top administrative court ruled Tuesday that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan‘s new palace was illegally constructed on protected land, according to court documents.

The presidential palace, which was reportedly constructed at a cost exceeding 650 million dollars and has more than 1,100 rooms, was opened last year in Ankara to much fanfare from the government and criticism from the opposition.

Legal petitions were launched by a number of groups, including the Chamber of Architects, against the massive building, known officially as the White Palace, saying it was built on a nature reserve.
