Refugee hotspots in Greece and Italy should by open in a month

Athens, 19 January 2016 (MIA) - European Commissioner in charge of migration Dimitris Avramopoulos said that the hotspots EU wants to open in Italy and in his native Greece will be prepared in four weeks at the latest. The points, that will be staffed by EU trained personnel, will serve to identify the coming refugees and to decide on their eligibility to continue toward core Europe and seek asylum there.

Avramopoulos also warned that the continent will see an increase in refugee arrivals in the coming months. The Commissioner added that some EU" countries continue to refuse to take part in the scheme for even distribution of refugees. Avramopoulos added that the Commission remains prepared to offer all types of financial and technical assistance to the countries that are faced with the refugee crisis.
