Albania frees 900 prisoners

Tirana, 22 January 2016 (MIA) - A total of 900 prisoners have been freed Thursday afternoon from Albanian prisons following entering into force of amnesty law, while 8000 others will benefit from the probation service, MIA reports from Tirana.

220 convicts were released from Fier prison, in presence of the Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani, while 610 others will stay in prison.

Ninety other prisoners were released from the Drenova prison, which still remains overpopulated. 390 prisoners still serve their sentence in this building that can hold only 312.
