Car bomb against Turkish police checkpoint near Syria kills at least 11 people

Ankara, 26 August 2016 (MIA) - At least 11 were killed and more than 60 wounded when a car bomb exploded near a Turkish police checkpoint in the city of Cizre on the border with Syria. Some of those wounded are in critical condition, Turkish authorities informed.

Turkey believes the blame for the latest attack on its police falls on Kurdish groups, as part of the escalating confrontation in the east of the country. The attack comes shortly after Turkey decided to intervene in northern Syria to help a rebel group take over a town from the Islamic State. Syrian Kurdish groups are also contesting territory along the Turkish - Syrian border.
