Albania will dispatch an infantry unit in Iraq to fight ISIS

Tirana, 27 February 2017 (MIA) - Albania decided to dispatch an infantry unit to Iraq, to join the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli said that the move would come under a United States led initiative.
The Government has turned to Iraq to request permission, before the matter can be put before Parliament, when the exact number of personnel and the site of their deployment will be known. Albania has already donated weapons to Kurdish forces fighting ISIS. The country has also cracked down on its own Islamist recruitment rings, who are believed to have sent hundreds of young Albanians to the Middle East, to join ISIS.
