New Serbian parliament inaugurated

Belgrade, 16 April 2014 (MIA) - Serbia's new parliament was inaugurated at a special session on Wednesday, with its 250 members being sworn in.

Most of the seats in the new parliament are held by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), led by Aleksandar Vucic, who said a new government would be formed by the end of the month.

Vucic's SNS holds 158 seats in the new parliament, followed by Ivica Dacic's Socialists and their coalition partners with 44 seats, Dragan Djilas' Democratic Party with 19 seats, Boris Tadic's New Democratic Party with 18, the Alliance of the Vojvodina Hungarians with six, the Democratic Action Party of Sandzak - Sulejman Ugljanin with three, and the List of Albanians from Southern Serbia - Riza Halimi with two seats.

The parliament must appoint the new government within a period of three months, but the future PM Vucic said the government would be formed by April 27 at the latest.
