Bosnia/Herzegovina inaugurates new presidency

Sarajevo, 17 November 2014 (MIA) - The newly-elected Presidency of Bosnia/Herzegovina consisting of Bakir Izetbegovic, Dragan Covic and Mladen Ivanic as the respective representatives of the Bosniak, Croat and Serb communities, held its inaugural meeting at a ceremony in Sarajevo on Monday, Hina news agency reports.

Newly elected members of Bosnia's tripartite presidency pledge to end the years-long political stalemate and revive reforms that would bring the country closer to EU membership, AP reports.

During the inauguration ceremony they promised more "agreements and cooperation" that will end the political quarrels which have resulted in economic stagnation, unemployment and brain-drain.

Bosnia got stuck on its path toward the desired EU membership seven years ago because its leaders could not agree on how to change the constitution so it would allow equal rights to minorities and strengthen central institutions to make the country more functional.

The three-member presidency is the first institution formed after last month's general elections.
