Bulgarian Government delayed its planned increase in retirement age

Sofia, 14 December 2014 (MIA) - Bulgarian Government has announced it will accept union demands and delay the planned reform of the retirement system for one year. The recently formed Government was supposed to prolong the retirement age by four months, but the proposal sparked mass protests.

Ivaylo Kalfin, Bulgarian Labour and Welfare Minister, met with union representatives and signed a memorandum of understanding that binds the Government to avoid any increase in the retirement age during 2015. Both sides also plan to agree a long term solution to this issue by the end of March, with ideas for more choice for workers about where to get their retirement from. The Government also promised it will introduce a minimum wage for all professions in 2015.
