Albanian police detain 88 illegal immigrants Gjirokastër, 21 December 2014 (MIA) – Police in two separate operations in the Albanian city of Gjirokastër have detained 88 illegal immigrants from Syria and Sudan, MIA reports from Tirana.
According to police sources, the immigrants entered into Albania from Greece and were supposed to travel via Montenegro to get to Western Europe.
More and more cases are recorded involving larger groups of illegal immigrants, including women and children, trying to pass through Albania.
Albanian police this year detained over 2,000 immigrants mainly from Syria, Sudan, Eritrea, Pakistan and Congo.
