Croatia, Montenegro likely to settle border demarcation issue in intl. court

Zagreb, 22 January 2015 (MIA) - Demarcation with Montenegro could be settled in an international court, Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic said on Thursday.

"With regard to the border, we are probably heading for an agreement to settle it in an international court," she told reporters.

Pusic said Croatia and Montenegro were also discussing oil and gas exploitation in the Adriatic, which is tied to the border issue, adding that she and her Montenegrin counterpart Igor Luksic had met several times recently, Hina news agency reports.

A state-secretary at the Montenegrin Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry, Vladimir Radulovic, said yesterday that Montenegro and Croatia had already agreed on documents on the status of the Prevlaka tip and that the negotiations on the matter before going to the International Court of Justice were in the final stage.

The Croatian Foreign Ministry said yesterday Croatia had sent Montenegro an unofficial, expert proposal of an agreement under which the two countries would ask the ICJ to define the land and sea border.
